What it is
Delta sleep-inducing peptide (DSIP), also called emideltide, is a nonapeptide reported to induce mainly slow-wave (delta) sleep in rabbits, rats, mice and humans [10][2].
Research status
The human evidence is old and small. A 1984 paper summarized small studies in which DSIP improved sleep in people with insomnia [11]. A 1984 review described effects on sleep, brain electrical activity, hormone levels and drug withdrawal in animals and some human studies, and noted that DSIP-like material had been detected in the brain, other organs and plasma of several mammals [10]. FDA’s 2026 review evaluated emideltide for opioid withdrawal, chronic insomnia and narcolepsy and concluded that the evaluation criteria weigh against adding it to the compounding list [2]. The same review cites a 2003 paper describing Deltaran, a mix of emideltide and glycine designed at a Russian Academy of Sciences institute, but FDA found that emideltide is not a registered drug in any country it searched [2].
Regulatory status
DSIP is not FDA-approved [1]. In July 2026, FDA’s advisory committee voted 7–6, with one abstention, against adding emideltide to the 503A compounding list; it was the only one of seven peptides the committee rejected [3][12]. No DSIP medicine is authorized in the UK, the EU or Canada [4][5][6][7]. It is not named in Australia’s Poisons Standard [8] or on WADA’s 2026 Prohibited List, although WADA’s section S0 bans substances with no current approval for human therapeutic use [9].
Quality and testing considerations
FDA has encountered multiple salts and derivatives sold under the same name [2], and its earlier safety review flagged possible immunogenicity and peptide-related impurities while noting that it had found no safety information for the proposed route of use [13]. A certificate of analysis should confirm identity by mass spectrometry and give a measured purity for the batch.
